Interagency Salvinia Control Meeting - There were presentations on biological, herbicidal, and a very interesting study on pharmaceudical uses for Salvinia. A compound isolated in Salvinia was found to attack tumor cells while doing little or no damage to normal cells. The biological controls are mainly weevils. It was found weevils will reproduce when water temperature rise above 66 degrees. The herbicides are using a two prong attack by mixing a topical chemical with one that mixes with water to attack from the roots up. The next meeting will be in January.
